What happend so far...

What happened so far…
So we have to hand in a report till today about our activities for the course so let's summarize a bit what I did in the last time:
After the first meeting I thought about the benchmarking and found that is difficult to narrow the wide field of the use of photography with cultural heritage content on the social network facebook. I looked for some "institutions" or "official" pages on the social network facebook and how the represent cultural heritage with photos and other visual material.
Right after the first lesson Nina created a group on facebook and we joined it to organize further meetings for this course.  Another task was to create a learning diary. I decided for a blog because its quite easy to create one if you have a google account and we had one for a course in Graz before and it worked quite well.
We had a groupmeeting on the 20th of february. Everybody presented her/his thoughts and research about the benchmarking. After we talked about that theme we switched to the courses we had in the first semester. Leigh Ann told us about the cultural heritage course in Turku and we told her about the IT-related courses in Graz. It was good to get an impression what the euromachsstudents did in their first term. We also uploaded the keyinformations to the wikiversity.
It was a bit challenging to put the informations into the wikiversity but it was helpful to go to the "edit-mode" of the mainpage and see how the different styles work. Like the other I created an own page: http://fi.wikiversity.org/wiki/Cultural_Heritage_in_Facebook_-_Pages_and_Private_Impressions
Leigh Ann was so friendly to organize the book about Social Media for us. Kimi gave us the introduction but we also distributed the other chapters so that every one of us would have one with a theme that would fit him/her personal interest I got one about photography. I already read the introduction but just had started with my chapter and am not completely done yet. We will meet up next week and present the chapters to each other.
Concerning further projects for the course we had a little discussion yesterday. For the groupwork we want to work together as a whole team if that is possible. There were some suggestions in the wikiversity and we thought that it might be possible to combine these topics. On the one hand there is this Facebook Page of Pori with a lot of photos and on the other there was the idea of a cultural tracker. We ended up that a combination of these themes could be possible. Creating a cultural tracker for the city pori including the visual material from their facebookpage. We also thought of going to Pori and create a short video where the trackerdata, the facebookphotos and the real impression could get combined.
For the individual project I have a only a very vague idea. Right now theres a new trend coming on social media called "Harlem Shake" and i thought it might be nice to see how trends set up on social media and how they transform the original content into a new hybrid form in the internet. I think that this Harlem Shake might be a good example for some reasons: There is a strict pattern for how it works and have to look like. People all over the world are fascinated and create their own version with friends. I'd also want to have a look on the original dance and how the city Harlem and their inhabitants react to this trend.
We will be away for some days but when we ll have our meeting for presenting the chapters to each other we will also talk about how we want to go on with our groupwork.
